Shaylyn wandered around the grounds of the school on a nice Saturday afternoon. She had just finished lunch and she had all of her homework done, and she had no idea what else to do right no. It didn’t take her long to get bored of just wandering around; she had probably made about 3 circles around the whole castle and she was getting bored of seeing the same scenery. Finally, after about half of her 4th circle, she stopped by the lake and sat. Shaylyn hated water, it was probably one of her worst fears, but if she wasn’t touching it, or near enough for it to touch her, she could stand being near it. The cool breeze that blew through the trees and through her hair was relaxing and as it blew again, she closed her eyes and just soaked it in. As she opened her eyes, she looked out at the water as the wind blew across the surface. The ripples that formed made interesting patterns that she would have enjoyed looking at, were it a smaller body of water that she couldn’t possibly drown in, but this was a lake, a rather large lake with rather large creatures in it that could do terrible things to a person. So she decided to stay where she was and just look at the ripples from afar. However, when the wind stopped blowing, the lake seemed dull without all of those ripples. Gaining a tad bit of confidence, she took a small pebble and walked near the edge of the lake, dropping the pebble in and watching the ripple effect. It was nice for a few seconds but then once they faded again, she realized that she was still alone. She wondered where everyone was today, usually there would be people around enjoying the nice weather but today there seemed to be no one. She sat back down, this time closer to the edge of the water, wondering if someone would come around that she could talk to any time soon. Lyall was done with his quidditch work out and had decided to take a swim in the lake to wash part of the grunge off. He was just peeling his sweat soaked robe and shirt off, then taking his shoes and socks off when he happened to look over and see one of the 7th years from his class. One of the ones every guy in the school was after. He sighed and watched her get closer though seemingly not noticing him yet.
He dove into the lake that was a little colder than he'd expected and let his head break surface on a shuddering gasp. "I have got to remember this isn't Home.. It isn't as warm here as it is Down Under." He said more to himself than aloud. As he caught his breath from the sudden system shock he dove under again, coming up closer to the shore and the chick that was still walking along the shore line. He rolled onto his back so that it would seem he wasn't studying her but was looking at the deep blue of the sky speckled with a few silver lined clouds. It seemed she was afraid of the water for some reason, because every time the water washed further up the bank she scurried back away. But why? He thought to himself.. Why would anyone be afraid of the water?
With him being from an island surrounded by water, and the waters inhabited with many dangerous creatures he'd learned to live with them at a young age. He knew what to do and what not to do to stay safe, to not attract any hungry kracken or some such beast. He respected the water more than feared it or any of the creatures in it. And the fact that this seemingly fearless 7th year that he'd seen around was apparently terrified of the small (to him it's small) body of water made his curiosity spike.
He swam up to the shore and stood some fifteen feet away from the girl before he spoke. "It won't bite you, ya know. It's just water." He stated in a matter of fact manner, with a smile, that he hoped she wouldn't take as him poking fun at her. He understood fears... He still couldn't bring himself to travel to Africa, and hadn't been able to since he was ten.

If Shaylyn had looked up she'd have seen one of her fellow students. Ruby had scrambled up a tree and was sitting in the crook of it's branches with a bit of wood about the length of her arm spinning in the air before her. In her hands was a gouge which she was using to shape the wand blank. Already about half of it was carved away leaving a taper that was about as thick as her pinkey at the tip. Now she was working on a string of bead decorations.
Hearing someone below she stopped the spin and plucked the wand blank out of the air as she leaned over to see who was below her. A soft grunt escaped her as she recognized the Seeker below her, though she couldn't place the older girl either by name or by house. Well she wasn't a Slytherin, that Ruby was sure of. Settling back Ruby debated coming down from her perch or staying up here to see what was going to happen below.

Even though the water at the shoreline was hardly an inch deep, she couldn’t bear to have it get any closer than a couple of inches away from her. Every time it would wash up on the shore she would take a couple of steps back until it receeded again. Most people would have thought she was just being silly, but she was so terrified of water that she couldn’t even help it. It wasn’t all water though, just standing bodies of water, meaning taking showers was ok and even an occasional bath because she could see the bottom and all of the edges of the tub. She figured it was the fact that large bodies of water such as this lake, or the ocean that she almost drown in, was that it looked limitless. Once she went under, she couldn’t reach the bottom, nor the sides, or anything and she felt like she could just be suspended there forever. Someday she would conquer this fear, but today was certainly not the day for that.
It wasn’t until she heard a voice that she got snapped out of her little trance that she had been put in from watching the water for so long. She looked around for a minute and saw someone about 10-15 feet away from her. She recognized him from around the common room but she wasn’t quite sure of his name. All she knew was that he was definitely a Ravenclaw. [pink] I know it won’t bite, but it could do things much worse if you let it. [/pink] She hoped she didn’t sound like she was being rude, it was just that she was still a bit uneasy being around the water that she couldn’t help it. Stepping away from the shore and more in his direction she eased up and smiled. [pink]I’ve seen you around but I don’t believe we’ve formally met. I’m Shaylyn, and you are? [/pink] She asked as she was close enough not to have to raise her voice.

Lyall smiled charmingly as Shaylyn neared him and spoke rather smartly to his comment. He knew she'd taken the remark wrong as soon as he'd said it, and smartly kicked himself for it. "I believe some lands are more dangerous than the water, but I was also raised around it. I don't think what I said came out the right way." He said in way of apology.
"I'm Lyall, a 6th year. Though I just came from Australia not long ago." He introduced himself to her.
He sat cross legged on the beach, far enough away from the rushing and receding water that she'd feel relatively safe to sit beside him if she so chose, with the sun warming his slightly chilled skin. Looking at the still standing Shaylyn he motioned for her to join him, and held up a handful of perfectly flat rocks for skipping across the water.....Making ripples... It had always fascinated him how the water could carry energy the way it did...almost endlessly unless a barrier blocked it.
He also saw that she hadn't any thing to drink, and since he'd skipped lunch he wondered if she had also. "Did you get lunch before you came out?" He asked while he offered her a chilled glass of water he'd got out of thin air.
OOC; Who:Lyall Expecting:Shaylyn and open What: Introductions Note: Slightly short, sorry..
