Ruby smiled as she pulled a lump of bread dough out of the ice box where it had been chilling for the last day. A quick check on it reassured her that the ever helpful house elves hadn't been to helpful by say speeding up the rise with magic. When she'd first come into the kitchens they'd seemed perplexed when she refused their offers to get her things, but when she explained she liked cooking for herself once in a while they grudgingly gave her her space, though she did have to watch they didn't help when she wasn't looking.
Setting the lump aside to warm and rest covered on a greased tray Ruby pulled on an apron and began humming to herself. Pulling a pot down she set it on the stove and went to find some tomatoes to cook up into a sauce.
"Mistress, can be of assistance?" came from knee level.
Looking down Ruby say a house elf staring up at her along his ice pick like nose. She debated for a moment then shrugged. "So long as you don't use magic I guess you can help me. And my name is Ruby, not Mistress. My family doesn't keep house elves, never have. Mmm, could you get me some oregano?"
"Fresh or dried?"
"Dried please."

Sally swallowed her fear, she supposed since other students had been doing this for years it was okay. She sighed, why did Jackie have to get sick NOW? For that matter, why was it that whenever Jackie was sick she craved fresh tropical fruit and ocean fish in 'clam butter'? Sally sighed, she didn't even know if the House elves could help, for that matter she'd never actually SEEN a house elf... but all the pureblood, and even many of the halfblood students swore that they existed and that them not being seen was a good thing. She tickled the pear on the tapestry and nearly jumped out of her skin as it giggled and morphed into a door handle, but she didn't have a chance to open it. She blinked and stared at the empty space where the door had just been. The kitchen was MASSIVE. She was fairly certain her brain shut down because she felt something tug at her sleeve in an annoyed manner.
"Excuse me miss, do you be needing some help?" The somehow gruff and yet squeaky voice jerked her eyes down to about the level of her little brother and she blinked. A pair of bulbous yellow-green eyes blinked back. Blink... Blink-blink... Blink... Blink-blink...
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Her scream of terror was loud enough to set off a dog howling somewhere in the castle as she backpedaled away from the door as fast as she could. Her spine met the solid rock wall on the opposite side of the hall and she sank down against it, wrapping her arms around nose-level knees in an effort to protect herself from the odd little semi-human creature that stood there, looking entirely confused.

Ruby jumped nearly three feet at the scream that echoed oddly in the wide open kitchen, her pizza dough flying into the air. "What the frack?" she yelped as she thumped down, her House elf helper neatly catching the floppy disk before it could hit the ground.
"Another student mis... Ruby. I am not sure what frightened her." her helper replied. "Over there. Should we...
"I'll go see her. Just... finish patting out the dough to 12 inches please. I should be right back to finish." Rudy said as she wiped her hands off and moved over to the huddled form.
She waved the befuddled elf off and knelt beside the... it took her a moment to realize Sally was a Puff girl. "Hello. I take it you're not used to house elves? They're harmless, just freaky looking. Ever hear of helpful brownies? They're what the stories are based on. I should know, my family records things like that. So any way, I'm Ruby Wasser. What's you're name, and how can i help you?"
OOC: Who: Ruby Expecting: Sally and Open Plot: Comfort the scared girl Notes: Scared children, even those as old or older then she is, are Ruby's weakness. Brings out the momma wolf in her.

Sally whimpered with her back against the wall, but looked up at the older girl blinking her large eyes. The green contacts leaving a clear line around her watery eyes as her blond roots showed under deep red hair dye, touching unnaturally blue skin. She was used to other students freaking out, but right now she was the one freaking out. Did she look that odd to other students? As odd as that… house… elf… oh…
“Mmmweeemi…” an attempt at speaking came out as a squeaky little whimper. She swallowed several times to relax her throat and then tried again.
“M-m-my n-na-name’sally” Stuttering to slurring words together in three seconds flat, that had to be a new world record for a sober person. She saw more of the oddly formed little semi-human creatures wandering around in the kitchen and attached herself to the older girl like a barnacle to a whale. Wrapping all four limbs around her. Sally was shaking so hard her teeth were vibrating. She really wished her sister had come down with her, or just not been sick at all. A small white cat with barely discernible stripes came trotting down the hallway, miaowing at her master to hurry the hell up. Frisky wanted to cuddle in Sally’s lap, but that wasn’t exactly possible when your master was busy feeding their rude sibling.

For her part Ruby didn't seem the least put out by Sally's odd look as the girl put a death grip on her. "Well it's nice to meet you Sally." the girl said as she held the younger girl. She'd let Sally go when the girl was ready and not a moment sooner.
"So what brought you down here? There anything I can get you?" Ruby asked as she glimpsed the cat that had just entered the room. She really hoped there wasn't a wizarding board of health or the school kitchen would be getting docked a few points. And to make matters better or worse, her furball was right behind the white thing.
Grim's tail was up and he padded over to Frisky, giveing her the once over before he began to stalk one of the house elves.
"Grim. Grim no. Bad kitty! Leave the elves alone!" Ruby ordered as she pulled her wand and cast a softly muttered levitation spell that snatched the cat up in mid pounce. "Naughty Grim. No treats for you tonight."
