Character
Wand: Cyprus, Melusian hair (her mother's) , 10 inches
Markings: None
Likes:
- private bathrooms,
- teaching,
- danceing
- logical actions
- baking and candy making
Dislikes:
- Rude students,
- those who use “Snakes” as an insult,
- crazy -bleepers- who -bleep- with the natural order of Life and Death (translation; those who try to cheat death).
Strengths:
- Parseltongue
- second snake woman form
-- form is more resistant to spell damage, much like a basilisk
- very skilled at water magics and countering the dark arts.
- skilled duelist both armed with and without magic.
- has trained her mind to see the smallest details and put them together
Weaknesses:
- In many ways she's a pseudo-were-snake; She has to take on her snakey form at least once a week though unlike the wolves she can assume the shape at will and can only pass the curse on to her own children.
- Mel is rather embarrassed with her appearance while snaked out.
- In snake form she trades magic resistance for having to no access to her magic. (translation: she can shrug off low to mid level spells, but can't return fire)
- Legally she is classified as a "Being" like goblins, hags, and full blood Veela so there are issues there.
- Several of the Governors don't care for her being a teacher and have made stinks about it like they did back with Lupin, though she isn't rated Quad X so their arguments have been stymied so far.
Boggart: shows her stuck in her snake woman form
Dementor: It makes her relive the first time she ever shifted.
Patronus: a freaking BIG cobra
Animagus: She tried to learn the spell, but something about her prevents it from takeing hold.
Mirror of Erised: She sees herself as a normal woman and a family, free of the family curse
Detailed Personality: Mel at her core is a patient and private woman who is rarely ruffled by what the students and staff come up with. She's got a strong sense of right and wrong, and hands out more demerits and detentions then most other teachers. Some say she's about as cuddly as a snake. Truthfully, that is far from reality, she just is trying a little to hard to have a professional mask, and she's worried that the English Ministry, though the School's governors, might use any screw up and her half breed nature to get her chucked out. She very passionate about learning, and will often be found in her off time curled up in the library with several books open and several quills making notes. She rather enjoys the Connan Doyle Holmes stories, and tries to keep up with the Holmes Expanded Universe stories of later writers. Very much enjoys the Marry Russel ones.
Family:
Deceased but relevant:
Distantly related to Herpo the Foul
Living:
Mother: Irene
Father: John
Sisters: Melody, Hannah
History:
Mel's story begins back during the 13th century when a witch married a prince, but laid down a few ground rules for their living together; among other things he couldn't bother her in the bath. Not hard to do, but the man one day broke all the rules and the witch left him, takeing their young daughters with her. The daughters grew and learned what their father had done. Being emotional teens they over reacted, and kidnapped their father and held him captive, using him to test their magic on. Their mother learned of this and swooped in laying out strong punishments. The oldest daughter was cursed to have a serpentine form she had to assume once a week, as well as a long life. The daughter fled the wizarding world, living in the wild until many years a wizard found her bathing in a lake. He was enchanted by her serpentine form and set to wooing her. In time they where married and children came along, each of the girls with the same 'curse' as their mother.
And so continued the family line to Melissa.
She was born in a Paris wizarding hospital and grew up in the countryside. Her parents laid low during Morty's first rise to power, and stayed there until Mel began to show her magic. She was enrolled at BB in 1988.
Her first year was relatively uneventful save for her first shift, which thankfully didn't happen in public. Mel was a mess until Madam introduced her to the Veela girls like Fleur Delacuor and her sister. it helped Mel, especially once her mother was brought into explain what happened.
Her next few years where uneventful, with Mel getting good grades and keeping her head down due to the renewed worry of Dark Wizards. In the 94-95 school year she along with several of her fellow students traveled to Hogwarts to participate in the Tri-Wizard tournament. We all know how that year played out.
She was less then amused when Fleur fell for Bill Weasely, but if it made her friend happy, she wasn't going to nag her over her choice. Morty's second coming spurred her to polish her skills with combat magics, and this served her very well during the war. She regrets not being at Fluer's wedding when it was crashed, but she was being hounded by some nasty customers and didn't want to ruin her friend's happy day, little knowing what happened until well after.
After the war Mel took some time to heal. She got a job at a Paris confection shop which she stayed at for several years, before beginning to feel like she needed to do something More. She went to school again, getting a muggle degree in teaching, as well as it's wizarding equivalent. Thus armed she began applying for jobs at BB and Hogwarts. She wasn't picky, but DADA drew her the most.
