Ruby glanced around the courtyard where clusters of other students sat or stood gossiping, working on homework, and just goofing off before dinner. From her bag Ruby pulled her skim board. Built like a cross between a skate board and a boogy board it was technically illegal to have in this country if she planned to sell it. But as she wasn't... it could still get her in trouble. But to her it was like the broom stick, so long as no one other then a witch or wizard saw her flying on it, no one would think anything of her having it. And she did take precautions when not around wizards, she had wheels she could clip to the bottom of the board to make it look like any other skate board.
The flat board dropped from her hand, the spells laid into the wood by her uncle causing the board to hover a few inches above the ground, as if resting on unseen wheels. Grinning Sarah stepped on and pushed off. the board shot forward, picking up speed with each kick. Shifting her weight Ruby jumped the board up onto a bench, grinding along it's edge before dropping back to the ground.
Kicking again Ruby aimed straight for one of the walls, building up as much speed as she could.
"Come on..." she said softly to herself. She'd had been working on this trick for months, but had yet to pull it off.
At the last second she kicked her board's nose up, and the whole thing shot straight up the wall, the only thin keeping her in place against the pull of gravity where the grip spells laid into the board's top and in the anklets she wore on each foot.
Three feet...
five...
six....
She could feel gravity gaining the upper hand against her momentum and the spells holding her to the wall. Would she make her goal, or would she come up short again?

Note: Might have posted prematurely, but the post was i my head and i wanted to get it up before i lost it.
Ruby is traveling straight up a wall, but will fall back to earth before she hits two stories.

Shiloh walked across the grounds from the gamekeeper's hut having just gotten through with her visit with Tony to go over the latest attacks on students by the sphinxicore when she saw a student with something that looked like a skate board. Knowing muggle "toys" were restricted in the magical community because the Ipod she'd gotten on her first foray into the non-magical world refused to work, no matter what charm she tried on it, she figured she ought to let her in on that little fact before one of the stricter professors came along and gave the poor child detention.
As she got nearer Shiloh saw that the student was arrowing straight toward one of the walls. Wondering if the girl saw it, she started to rush forward when she noticed the skateboard didn't have any wheels. And it wasn't completely a muggle skateboard... It looked like someone had had a hard time deciding if they wanted to make a board, or go surfing. She cringed as the girl came within inches of the wall and stood with mouth agape in shock as she watched both girl and board climb the wall, it seemed on an invisible rope.
She got to the wall before the student got much farther than three feet up, and waited with arms crossed until the inevitable happened. When she saw that their momentum had slowed, then started to back track severely Shiloh stood with her wand raised to issue a levitation spell so the girl's path to the ground was at the least slowed and started tapping her foot. When she knew the girl could hear her Shiloh made sure the most stern tone she had was in her voice when she said, "Just what do you think you're doing young lady?! Don't you know muggle objects are not allowed on school grounds?" She cleared her throat, and felt the rush that flying without a broom could lend, so she turned the 'teacher' off for a second when she said, "I'll let you off this time, if you let me try that little toy out," then stood with a grin waiting on the girl to acknowledge, or decline her presence.

Ruby felt the levitation spell wrap around her as she lost her battle against gravity, which could mean only one thing; a teacher or prefect was going to ream her out for her little stunt. letting the spell slow her she managed to right herself so she landed on her feet, her board hovering by her side.
"It is not a misuse of muggle artifacts violation professor." Ruby replied as she tugged her shirt into place and rubbed her hands on the legs on the pants she was wearing. a murmured word triggered the spell woven into the fabric, shifting the garment back into the skirt and tights she'd worn during the day before she got in trouble for being out of uniform.
"This was never a muggle item. My uncle built it from scratch as a prototype and he sent it to me for a through testing of it before we moved to England. I have permission to have it, it's been cleared through customs. And i thought the ban on muggle objects only applied to higher tech objects that tend to get fried by the magical static discharges. If the ban applies to all muggle objects, we'd better start cleaning out the castle, as there is a lot of stuff they thought up in here."
Ruby blinked, her mouth switching off as Professor Mindel's last comment and eager grin registered through the swirl of her defense strategy. "Um, yeah, sure you can give it a try. it's kind of like flying a broom ... just not like riding a broom. I mean... you use most of the same motions, just in a different position. It won't go as high as a broom, I didn't activate that charm."

Shiloh put on a stern face as Ruby started on the defensive about the object and how it wasn't even muggle to begin with. With a one sided grin she replied, "If it's not a muggle thing, then what exactly is it? It looks like one of them skateboards the non-magical kids are harping about. "
Shiloh was a rule-bender also, especially since she didn't like the headmistress all that much, the woman just rubbed her the wrong way with her goody-two-shoes routine. She loved causing trouble almost as much as some of the worst of the Slytherin house, in fact she was being chased by the new gamekeeper and bristling many other women's back with the fact that she was the only one he kept coming back to.
"Alright, alright, you got me. It's mainly for the electronics. Though professors frown on muggle things here because of the misuse of muggle artifacts that the ministry comes up with. Believe me, I know there's more toys here than even the headmistress herself knows, the dumb broad. I suppose since customs has cleared it it's fine.. Just don't let any one else catch ya, some get hard on the ban."
Shiloh giggled like a giddy schoolgirl when Ruby said she'd let her try it. She was in for an adrenaline rush and that little toy looked like it would give someone just that if they knew how to work it. She took the offered board, planted her feet and let the thing show her how to ride it. She was having a blast just scooting across the flat grounds of the courtyard, and decided to take it further by climbing up one of the walls like Ruby had been attempting. Her first try failed drastically as she tumbled nose first into the ground by putting too much weight on the front of the board, the next try though she succeeded and climbed to over ten feet before deciding the antics should stop before they were caught.
Shiloh returned to the ground and handed the board back to Ruby with a smile. "It's nice kid.. Just watch were you play with it, any one else would take it from ya in a heartbeat." Shiloh warned, as she caught a glimpse of white and knew that one of the ones who would was now coming from the castle entrance. Hoping they hadn't been caught she stood there looking like she was lecturing the poor girl on some insignificant thing in her eyes.

"It's a test bed for improved levitation, sticking, and ... well every other spell ever laid on a broom. Except the comfort ones. My uncle knew I have the regular kind of boards, so he adapted the shape cause I abuse boards worse then I do brooms. I've had it long enough to put it through quite a bit too. Uses in a few friendly games of Q-pot and Quid." she had a bit of an evil grin on her face at this point. "I like it better then using a broom for the sports. Harder to knock me off with a Bludger."
As Shiloh played with the board Ruby couldn't help giggling like mad as she watched. By now a good number of the other students in the court yard had stopped what they where doing to watch as well.
"Professor, I can get you one, or a broom with the same spells laid on it if you want." /And likely a few extras/ Ruby added to herself. She suspected her uncle had applied some kind of recording and scanning spell to her board, and he collected the data those covert spells recorded when ever she sent the crystal that recorded the board's performance data to him.
At the warning Ruby nodded, and slipped the board back into her bag. "Yes ma'am. I'll save riding it for on the Pitch and not in the school." /though there goes half the fun of it./

Zadiken stood nearby, seemingly unnoticed, and watched the girl and Shiloh talk about this 'board'. He wasn't sure what he would do at the moment, Shiloh was already there, and absolutely gushing over the 'board'. But Zadiken, more or less, was curious as to why she would need the board within the school grounds. He sighed bitterly, hating to ruin any sort of innocent fun the girl seemed to be having, but Kaliana would flip like a gymnast... and Zadiken wouldn't want to deal with it when she found out he witnessed it and at least didn't say something.
"...Ok, I'm suspicious, but in a hurry, whaatisgoingonhere?" he asked passively, so as to seem like he was doing something important that couldn't be bothered. His broadsword, the one he used for the fencing class, hung loosely off of the back of his jacket, held there by magic, the weight of the weapon reminding him that he DID in fact have class to teach soon, so he put his hands in his pockets as a sign of impatience.
I totally should have stayed in bed today... the white haired wizard said as he stood there, awaiting a response from the student and the apparently responsible professor.

Ruby let out a soft eep! of surprise as the Alchemy and Fencing master seemed to appear out of no where. In the back of her head she could hear her mother scolding her for relaxing her guard. "Nothing you need to concern yourself with sir." the girl said quickly, belatedly remembering fencing was tonight.
Ruby fidgeted under his gaze, wishing she could sink into the ground. Even if she got away easy now, she was likely to have it made up for during fencing. " I already got scolded by Professor Mindel, and promised to keep my riding to the Quiditch pitch. She was just curious about the skim board and wanted to try it out..." bubbled out of her lips against her will, but in an effort to get get Professor Anvion's gaze off her.

Shiloh stared as the white haired wizard started making hsi way over and knew they'd been caught. A flirtatious smile played with her lips as he neared and faltered slightly at the sight of the sword hanging from his back. She gave him a lingering once over as he was talking, yet seeming so distracted.
Shiloh remembered that he was another one that was always hanging around Headmistress Justice and her hackles raised, but she made sure an inviting smile was in place when she replied to his offhanded comment, "I've got it handled, Mr. Anvion. Unless you are needing help with something else." She put emphasis on the something else and a blush rose. She knew she was laying it on thick, but that was they type of woman she was. When she saw something she wanted, she went after it, no matter who or what stood in the way.
Remembering Ruby, and her skateboard....thing.. she smile at the student, and dismissed her from any retribution concerning the flying toy. "You're free to go back to whatever you are doing, just remember to keep that think in the Pitch, okay? And it's almost dinner, so you might actually want to clean up." She noticed the sudden change in temperament when the other professor had neared in the girl, and wondered why that was, but then put it out of her mind.... She had more important things needed taken care of. |

He stood there with a look on his face that plainly said I am not stupid.
Nonetheless, he looked at Ruby and raised an eyebrow. "Fencing lesson. Tomorrow. You signed up for the class, so I expect you there instead of out here playing with toys." he looked over at Professor Mindel and crossed his arms. "I'm no stickler for the rules, like Lana is, but I've got to ask you about your apparent issues with authority." he said, keeping a calm, professional demeanor. He wasn't upset with Shiloh, by any means, but was more or less wanting to know WHY she was out here ENCOURAGING activity with a student that obviously could lead to injury. However, what he was even more curious about was why every time she went around Tony, he went all doe-eyed... But that was for a different time. Last thing he needed was his subordinate to get mauled by a forest monster because he was twitterpated.
He awaited and answer and stole a glance towards the entrance to the west wing, planning on going to his classroom soon to pick up the swords for his lesson. Dulled blades for practice, not for cleaving. he looked between the two and waited for Shiloh's response.

Ruby didn't flinch from Zad's expression as she'd seen other students do. Honestly, his glower wasn't half as scary as her Gran's. Hers was a Killing Curse and his was just a Stunner. And a weak one at that.
Which was not something she'd ever inform Zad of. And she kept it well under wraps as she didn't know if he had any skill in picking a person's mind.
"I know sir. And i was aware of the time, I'd have had plenty to make today's lesson." Ruby replied as she packed up her things. Turning to Zad she gave the fencing instructor a polite bow which she followed by one for Shiloh.
Slinging her back over her shoulder she hurried off for the dungeons. Shiloh was right that she needed to clean up, and she was feeling sweated up enough that she'd need to brave the showers and all the catty comments by the other girls using them. A shiver went through her body as she remembered one year at summer camp and the communal showers.... so awkward and embarrassing. At least there was a little more privacy here at the school, but it was still intimidating.

Shiloh turned to Ruby as she turned to leave and asked about a private lesson concerning the skim board "I'll talk to you later about trying that thing out more." She said.
She heard the tone under the calmness that Zadiken tried to relay and her muscles automatically tensed. She looked at him with a grim, unknowing expression and asked "I don't know what you're talking about, issue with authority. I just call it like I see it" She stated matter-of-factly.
As she watched Ruby leave she figured somehow she'd gotten herself into an argument she hadn't reckoned on. Sighing she faced the auror that the headmistress coveted highly and sneered. "And I don't like the point you're trying to get at." She said snidely.
She knew she had IT, yet hated being turned down, or comments being made concerning that. She looked toward the gamekeeper's hut and absentmindedly wondered where the occupant was at that moment. Probably out saving some stinky creature, or some idiot kid from said creature. She thought to herself as she waited on the white-haired man to respond. |

"A student almost died yesterday, Shiloh, from the creature that's residing in the forest. The creature that you treated like it was no big deal. We should just kill it." he removed his sword and held it out to her.
"Good. Run out there and jab this in it's throat."
He was annoyed, mainly because all she could do was just... retaliate like a raccoon trapped in it's borough. What the hell was wrong-
"Really. What's wrong with you? You stood at the meeting and pretty much acted like a student. You didn't listen to anything, you didn't even act like you cared. What is that supposed to reflect on your job, Mindel? Lana was trying to make a plan to save lives here. Why even show up if you were just going to stand there and insult Tabby's intelligence?"
He remained calm all throughout this spiel, making his point and solidifying it by placing his sword in it's place on his back, where it was thus held again like a magnet was there. He didn't get her. She acted so... juvenille. Would he have to take her to see-
Yes.
"Come with me for a second. There's something you need to see."
He turned and walked towards the Hospital Wing. He would show her what she regarded with apathy and uncaring... then she would realize how much her help would be needed.
