Lyall was sitting at the Ravenclaw table looking like he was minding his own business when a shriek raised the roof from the Hufflepuff table that was soon followed by all of that house scrambling from the table in such a rush that they were landing in a heap in the middle of the Great Hall. Laughter burst forth from the remaining tables as what seemed to be a cross between a rat and a lizard scaled the Hufflepuff's table devouring any and all scraps left by the fleeing kids.
A snicker escaped his mouth as he surprised himself by getting away with the prank. He'd used a transfigure spell on one of the goblets in front of one of the Hufflepuff's quidditch players to repay her for the bludger she'd sent into his stomach the last game making him lose sight of the snitch and costing them the game. He was a sore loser when it came to any sport, though more so with quidditch because he was good at it and it was his favorite sport. It took more mental and honestly physical strength to fly with his legs and search the horizon with his eyes than did.....say fencing or chess.
Cassie, a 5th year sitting next to him saw the self-satisfied smile he'd tried to hide with little success and elbowed him in the ribs because if he'd been caught it would have meant a hefty fine in way of house points for the Ravenclaws and right now they were in a three way race with the Huffles, and the Griffs for first. He let out a sharp 'Umph' coupled with a "Hey! Do you want me to get caught?!" His outburst didn't go unnoticed by many close and a glance up to the head table warned him that suspicion had crossed the minds of the headmistress as well as a few other professors and Lyall let out a silent groan, hoping that was as far as it went.
Dinner was over with and deserts were in the process of being cleaned up as Lyall started casting wanting glances toward the door, his eyes straying over a few rather good looking girls of every table, his favorite happened to be a fellow Ravenclaw who had brown hair and it seemed green eyes. He let a lopsided grin play across his features as everyone headed for their respective common rooms or classes. He got up from the table and made his way out through the double doors into the hallway stopping to chat with a few acquaintances..
OOC: Character: Lyall Plot: Paying back a Hufflepuff beater, and avoiding suspicious eyes Expecting: Open Notes: He's a sore loser, and is very good at doing small transfigurations without getting caught.

A blond Slytherin girl he recognized as one of their Chasers brushed past Lyall grumbling not quite as quietly as she seemed to think she was grumbling. "Stupid Puff. Just cause I'm a snake doesn't mean it was me. She ticked off a lot of people around this place. Fracker nearly broke my leg in a friendly pickup game last weekend with her playing for keeps. If I'd been going for revenge it would have been a private strike, not something so amateur in public. Maybe make her clothing invisible to all but her and teachers. Or turn her into a pygmy puff and keep her as a pet and make her lick between my toes after practice..."
A clear sign of Ruby's agitation was the fact that her magic was getting away from her and making every candle and torch she passed flared up into unhealthy green flames. her clothing rippled and shifted to a t-shirt with "WWHDD?" printed across her bust and jeans under a gray trench coat with the Salem Academy logo across the back.
OOC: Who: Ruby Expecting: Lyall / Open Notes: Figure Puffkin jumped to the obvious conclusion where the spell came from, and Ruby was in the line of sight required for the spell.

Lyall stumbled a little as he was caught off guard by the chick brushing rather roughly past in her mood. He recognized the girl's retreating back as one of the Slytherin players, which was almost as bad as the Puff he'd just 'attacked' in the Great Hall. He'd swore as she passed though that someone had started pointing the finger at her, instead of where it should be, and that gave him a second 'notch in his belt'... He'd gotten a snake in trouble for his wrong doing. His hateful, "An excuse me wouldn't kill you!! accompanied by a deadly glare followed the chaser down the hall.
Lyall was still getting help up on his way out to the Pitch to practice his flying and grew more irritated by the second. If there was one thing he did not like, it was to be held up from something important, or something he wanted to do... This fell under both those categories. He let his irritation show until one particularly good looking 7th year made her way by and slapped him on the shoulder. He didn't really know what for until she mentioned that the prank had been a good one. He stiffened slightly at having been called out, hoping no one near had heard....
Just as he was starting to make his way through the crowd to the doors leading outside, he felt a hand on his shoulder and heard whom he knew to be the headmistress clear her throat. Great, I got it coming now. He thought to himself as he turned a steady eye up to Headmistress Justice. He gave a weak one-sided grin and asked, "Yes, Ma'am?" He sighed as he knew his chance to get in any flying had just been shot down.

Ruby spun on her heels, her transfigured trench-coat spinning out dramatically, and returned the death glare. her fingers twitched like she really wanted to make some rude gesture, but she was restraining herself.
"Oh shush it, glory hound." she retorted as she rolled her eyes. "I didn't knock anything out onto the floor or make you spill something on yourself. You've been hit worse by bludgers. If you're trying to pick a fight, go leap into the lake, I'm not brawling in the halls. If at some point in the future you do have a real grievance with me, we can settle it honorably. Offer me a formal challenge of wands, swords, or brooms and I'll accept. I don't care how we settle it so long as it is fair, safe, and it settles the matter. Now, you have taken up enough of my time, so good bye."
Feeling strangely relieved by her rant Ruby felt an urge to put off her class work for a bit and work with her hands for a bit. Heading to the dungeons she dropped off her bag and collected the half shaped wand blank and her carving tools.
