Tabby sighed as she sat in a hospital gown. She hated coming in for checkups on the injuries inflicted on her back. It was necessary though, until the scars were at least a decade old she’d have to keep coming back if she wanted to retain her ability to bend in any direction. She looked around the boring room, wishing she wasn’t wearing the itchy ‘gown’. A poster of a doctor giving a patient a shot caught her eye, ‘inoculation against rabies, because even muggle animals can be dangerous’ it read. She rolled her eyes. What idiot was stupid enough to think that there was such thing as an animal that wasn’t dangerous? Any animal could injure a person, or prove fatal. It just depended on how the person interacted with the animal. She shifted and heard the strained leather sound from her back that made her come in despite her dislike of the place.
“What’s taking the healer so long?” She grumbled freely. She just wanted her back dealt with and then she’d be back and off to class; dealing with errant creatures, idiotic students, annoying ministry agents, and people who were more concerned with their appearance and/or love life than with their actual life. She blew out like a horse, lips flapping a little as well. Amazingly enough, that was heaven compared to sitting, naked aside from an itchy, light green, wool robe that would bare her ass if she stepped outside, in a hospital room. Then again at least it was quiet in here. A barrage of eerie howls corrected her on that and she sighed. So much for that pleasant though. Apparently someone had pissed off a banshee. She sighed and moved to laying down, might as well take a nap while waiting.

Nurse Carson knocked on the door of the exam room and waited a second before entering. She cleared her throat as she saw her patient was napping on the table, and swore to every higher up that she knew that she'd been the one held up by the banshee. There really hadn't been anything wrong, the thing just didn't like doctors, and let everyone within twenty miles know it.
"Ms. Tabby? I'm sorry I'm so late.. I got held up, as you probably heard." The nurse said by way of apology. She hoped her current patient was more understanding than the one prior. Her nerves still grated, as the banshee was continuing to let everyone know how much she enjoyed being checked over. Thank goodness she'd been able to had her off to another more patient nurse. She looked at her watch and groaned, just as her belly send out a protest of it's own.... It was after 2 and she hadn't even been able to wrangle up lunch yet.
As Tabby began to sit up, the nurse asked, "So what brings you here today? I see you've had run ins with creatures a lot lately." with mild concern in her voice.

Tabby didn’t even open her eyes when she heard the knock on the door, and didn’t respond until the lady was done speaking, at which time she sat up. Much slower than normal. Once again a sound akin to straining leather emanated from her back, this time causing pain. She didn’t let it show, keeping her face passive.
“Eh, no biggie. If I were any rush I wouldn’t be here in the first place.” Tabby smirked a little as she heard the nurse’s stomach growl. One of several reasons she’d chosen not to go into health care. Yes her job was demanding and she sometimes skipped meals to accommodate that, but at least she had enough time to grab a snack here and there.
“I’m in here because I was told that if I want to retain the ability to keep my back as anything other than shield leather I had to come in once a month for treatments. Not that I’m entirely pleased with the situation in any matter. But since my back has been sounding and feeling like old, overused leather I figured it was time to come in, again. Try as she might she couldn’t keep the bitterness out of her voice. She hated the way any place of healing felt. There was so much pain just soaked into the walls, the floor, the ceilings; every fiber of the place. She couldn’t repress a shudder as she heard the banshee give a final wail that trailed off into an eerie type of silence.

Nurse Carson heard the sound of leather being pulled too tight and cringed as she knew it must have hurt Tabby though the strong woman showed no reaction. "I apologize again about this taking so long, I know you have better things to do than wait here and listen to screams." She said with a slight stutter.
She made note that she must at the least grab a handful of whatever was edible and closest to her once she got done with her current patient or else her stomach might rebel further.
The nurse listened to Tabby intently and noted her irritation at having to come at regular intervals because of her massive scaring across the back. The nurse could guess at where some of the bitterness was coming from because she'd seen firsthand what went on between these walls and she relished the moment she was done with her shift or got just a minute of down time to slip outside of them. "Well, then, lets see what we can do about that. And hopefully you shall be able to move a little more freely for a while at the lease. How much longer are you supposed to make regular visits?" The nurse inquired as she shut the door to instruct the woman to show her back to allow the nurse to heal the abused skin.

Tabby sighed and shifted, letting the gown open up more than it already was in back so that her spine was visible. She hated letting people see her back, but it was necessary. The tattoo at least made her feel better if someone (usually a house elf) walked in on her showering, bathing, or in any sort of topless state and saw her back. Then again the house elves disliked Tabby quite a bit because she couldn’t keep her dogs from shedding all over the place, or from chasing them whenever they entered her rooms at Hogwarts.
“Until the scars are ten years old or until they make a miracle cure that lasts more than a friggin month… You know, you’d think as fast as muggles manage to make and adapt things we could at least do a passable job of keeping up. I mean really, while half the stuff they come up with is frivolous; we could make an advancement a year in medical magic I would think. … Please tell me this won’t involve cold hands… or cold instruments…” So sue her, she didn’t like having cold things on her back, unless they were snowy or icy, then they were a welcome thing because snow and ice meant winter, which meant her birthday. An uncelebrated holiday, but one that meant she didn’t feel guilty treating herself to an extra drink or a night of just walking around the lake instead of doing her job. She sighed softly as the healing began, wondering if half of the problem wasn’t in her mind.

The nurse looked sympathetically on as Tabby opened the back of the gown slightly to reveal the extensiveness of the scars partially hidden by a tattoo. That had to be one heck of a process to heal all the damage. she worried to herself. As her patient explained how long the doctors had told her she needed to come back she shook her head in disgust. "You know.. You're right.. We should be able to make some sort of improvements. In fact, I have a new liniment that they wanted me to try on you, if you don't mind.. It's supposed to relieve this part of the process to once every three months if it works right. "
The nurse held up the bottle of brewed potion.. Even she didn't know what was in it, it was top secret only for use with those 'tough' patients. Though she'd been told to warn the user of unknown side effects.
"Though, I was told to warn you.. The side effects from it have not been discovered yet. To allow you to use this, the doctors ask that you report any out of the ordinary stuff to them."

“Lady, I work at Hogwarts, with students. Students who regularly try to bespell, hex, curse, or otherwise screw with their teachers. Explain what exactly ‘out of the ordinary’ would be.” Tabby was actually able to laugh, although the motion she made while doing so caught on her spine and pulled the skin tight. She didn’t let it stop her from laughing though. When she was done she reached up, rubbing one shoulder. It was an old habit by now, and as close to her back as she could get since some of her flexibility was removed by the taught skin.
“Seriously though, I don’t mind being a guinea pig, especially not if it will keep me the heck outta places like this. But I don’t think I would know ‘out of the ordinary’ if it jumped up and bit me on the ass… So uhhh… Is that something to drink or is it rubbed on?” so color her stupid, she just wanted to get the hell out of this place and go home. That and she had no medical training aside from her own talents with beasts. That reminded her to stop at a shop on the way home, she needed to see the current prices on unicorn foal hairs. They had different properties than the hairs of adults after all.

The nurse smirked at her patient's obviously smart remark about not knowing 'out of the ordinary' stuff if it had bit her on the rear. True, though that with all the pranks and such that went on at that school it might be hard to discern between the two. She didn't even know herself what the symptoms the doctors wanted the lady to look for, so she gave Tabby her best guess.
"I'm assuming they mean like... Growing scales or such.. Maybe gills or color changing skin....? To be honest, they weren't very clear about the side effects." she responded sheepishly with a look of apology.
She handed Tabby a cup marked with measurements and the bottle of stuff, a worried frown furrowing her brow. "If you're willing to use it, it's your choice. You drink it, and from the smell when they put a portion of it in this bottle for ya it won't taste very pretty. They said you should use 3/4 of a cup." she informed her patient in a matter of fact tone. For her sake the nurse hoped it at least helped lessen the severity of the tight skin to the point it was tolerable if not to the point to where the lady could skip a month or two of treatments.
The nurse waited as Tabby decided what she was going to do, try the new medicine or continue with the monthly visits where topical liniment was applied to her back.
