Lyall grabbed one of the school's brooms, seeing as his was currently in for repair due to the bludger that had sent him sprawling against the Puffs. His hackles were still up about that game, and the fact that the girl had did it with the intention to hurt not really to make them lose the game grated even more with the fact that the call had been made good.
He straddled the broom and kicked off the ground much harder than he'd really needed to, a flush of anger just visible against the collar of his robe. He sent the broom skyward, pushing the shoddy thing to it's limits doing rolls and dives. He felt his anger dissipating as he pushed himself physically and mentally through his drills. Though he didn't have the snitch, or any of the other balls used in Quid, he was running through all the motions. He was a chaser one minute, seeker the next, and beater lastly.
He was out of breath from the pure exhilarated rush he got from pushing himself and his equipment as far and as hard as it could go, so he decided it was a good time for a break. He angled himself to the ground, dismounted close to the wall and the pile of stuff he'd brought with him.. He bent and grabbed the continuously chilled bottle of water and put it to his mouth, drinking deeply before grabbing the small towel he'd brought to mop up the sweat he knew he'd garner from the work out he'd started for himself.
He dropped to the ground in a prone position and did a set of muggle 'push ups' then flipped and did a set of situps to loosen his muscles that had begun to get tight with tension. He'd just reached for the broom he was borrowing again as he saw the head of a girl he recognized as a slytherin player coming through the gates. He braced himself for a fight until he saw which one it was, and allowed some of the tension to drain away.

As ruby came fully into view Lyall saw that, despite the nip in the air, she was wearing tight spandex shorts that showed off the muscles of her upper legs very well. Around her waist were two belts with her wands hanging one on each hip. Her feet looked like they'd been dipped in neon green and silver paint as she was wearing toed runners shoes. her shirt was a Salem Academy t-shirt that had seen better days, over which was a light wind breaker from the same school. "I got your note." Ruby said as she dropped her school bag onto the ground. her posture was relaxed, though the way her hand twitched towards her wand said she was on edge about this meeting, and was expecting the worst. Lyall looked as Ruby came into view, and his mouth instantly went dry.. What did this chick think she was doing wearing something like that around? He thought desperately to himself. He took another deep drink or the refreshing water and poured some over his head for good measure. As he watched her drop her things rather carelessly on the ground he gave a slight wince.. He liked to respect his things, and wished others would do the same.
"I see that, or you wouldn't of come." He saw the...instinctive.. twitch toward her wand and held up his hands in a gesture of peace. He hadn't meant anything by the invitation to practice, or whatever. Certainly nothing bad, he'd just noticed they'd gotten off on the wrong foot after his little prank and wanted to try to patch things up at the least to the point of toleration.
"Easy... I didn't come to fight, or continue the fight.. I came to try to apologize. I was and am still peeved at that Puff." His tone conveyed his apology sincerely, though goodness knows he hated saying sorry. He let a slight smile play across his lips hoping to calm her nerves a little. Though he still couldn't get how she looked in that outfit out of his mind. He shrugged and gave her a slight once over, not caring if she saw or not. He wasn't going to hide that she had the makings of a looker.
"So......Truce? He inquired hesitantly.

Ruby couldn't hold back to soft snort as she watched Lyall react to her outfit. Yes, she did wear this exact outfit when she went running around the school grounds. Well she had the first month she was here, then it had tapered off as school work and practice and everything else had cut down on her free time. But she'd chosen it for several reasons; she could move in it, and to throw off Lyall if this had been a set up. And word would make it into light weight body armor. Useless against spells, but useful in a physical fight.
"All right... I guess I didn't really apologize either for after did I?" she said relaxing as she removed one belt, the one with the darker of her two wands, and tucked it into her bag. From the corner of her eyes she saw Lyall looking her over again, and she deliberately shifted to give him a good look at her butt. He wasn't her type, but she liked fishing just for fun.
Straightening up she nodded. "Truce. That spell was pretty cool, though I hear if you want to really mess with her you should have gone with something tentacle covered."

Lyall's smile became more relaxed as Ruby acknowledged his apology and agreed to the truce. He still couldn't get over her outfit, though if truth be told she wasn't the type he usually dated but he wouldn't mind getting to be friends with her, allies at the least.
"So next time I'll get her with squid or something of the like.... So.. You want to take a run, or run through quid practice? Or we could even get lunch and take it some where.. I kind of forgot about lunch... Though one of the house elves in the kitchen likes me." He said rather haltingly, hoping he wasn't coming across as putting the moves on her. He had honestly forgotten about lunch because of his mood and since it had started wearing off was rather ravenous.
He took another drink of water and waited on Ruby to decide.

Ruby pursed her lips a little as she considered the options. "Lunch somewhere works for me, Glory Hound. Some where out here if you have no objections. I'm not really in the mood to sit with my house at the moment. There was a freaking cat fight in the bathroom this morning over some idiotic thing and now everyone's in a snit and has taken sides." She rolled her eyes as she picked up her bag.
"So, any way, how about a less annoying and inbreed subject? How about 'what they heck am I wearing? And why am I?'." She zipped her windbreaker up some as she gave him a smirk. "I've seen the look you gave me before. The shoes have been around for a few years int he non-magical world and are really comfortable to run in. And i'm from Massachusetts, so I'm not that cold right now. And honestly, it's habit. I Attended Salem longer then i have Warts, and I still grab my old things without thinking."

Lyall smirked at her use of the interesting nickname completely amused. "Glory Hound am I?" He laughed. He figured it had something to do with his position on the quid team, but that was just a guess. He listened to her as she talked about the 'girly girl' fight in the washroom and agreed to the terms. "Well, I can run to the castle and grab some grub.. I know a way to get there and back in under 5. Do you have something you really have a liking for?"
Truth be told he wasn't in the mood for much company either.. He was in one of his very rare solitary moods. He transfigured shorts and a tank out of his jeans and robe, though he was from Down Under the exercise he'd done and planned to continue after a brief lunch had made it feel hot to him. The initial shock as the chilled air hit his over heated skin caused him to gasp on a slight shiver.
As she broached the subject of catching him looking at her, he smirked. "So, what? Am I not even allowed to look at a girl that would be deemed hot by any standard, even if she's not exactly my type... And wearing something out of the ordinary for the chill of England? I admit, if you were my type, I would be very attracted.." He half flirted with Ruby, the tension gone. Though she wasn't his type, she certainly was very attractive and he always had been a flirt, so.... It was just natural that he'd been looking.
He waited for her reaction as he asked again, "So, lunch.. What do you want? I'll meet you back here in 5."

Ruby let out a laugh at Lyall's reaction to her pet name for him. "All Seeker's are glory hounds. Why else do you want the position that nine out of ten times wins the game?" she pointed out.
her stomach grumbled loudly prompting an embarrassed flush to color her cheeks. "Um... tell the elf to make a Philly Cheese steak, hold the onions and peppers, Provolone cheese, toasted roll wrapped to go. And a small bag of kettle cooked chips. Crisps... what ever."
She shrugged and removed her other belt, putting it away like she had the first one. "I have no problem with people looking and enjoying. I certainly like looking and enjoying. It's when people, such as house mates, do more the look. Then I get jinxy. Anyway, go, get lunch. I'll be waiting right here for when you get back."
Without really waiting for lyall to start off she dipped into her bag and pulled a pair of sweat pants and a regular pair of sneakers out. The sweats where black, silver and green with "Witch and Proud of it" across the bum. Slipping them on Ruby found a spot to sit and wait.

Lyall listened to what she wanted for lunch, and made sure he remembered the kettle cooked...crisps.. whatever those were. Glory Hound... he snorted. and gave Ruby the reason as to why he had been chosen for the position he hadn't really picked. "I admit, Seekers are usually Glory Hounds.. But I was picked, I didn't chose the position.. I'd rather be a Beater because there is less danger of body parts being smashed by the opposing team, but since I was the best and strongest flyer... Here I am." He told her rather sardonically.
He smirked as he gave her another once over and smiled. "I'm sure there are many kids who try to get the 'something more' quite often. I hate when people try to force themselves on unwilling people." The pitch in his voice took a dangerously low octave when he mentioned forcing unwilling people.. It was one thing someone did not do.. No person, or creature deserved to be forced to do anything, least of all what she was implying.
He made himself calm down and said. "Alright, I'll be right back with it." With that he left through the gate, and went into a secret entrance only he knew about leading within yards of the entrance of the kitchens. He got their order, thanked his friendly house elf, and made his way back within seconds of the five minutes he'd told Ruby.
He came back through the gate to the pitch holding two paper bags, and two bottles of lemonade hoping she liked something like that. Holding them in front of him he motioned, and asked. "Okay, so where are we headed?"

Ruby's head bobbed as Lyall explained how he had ended up as Seeker. "Ah, I see. I suppose that's better then how half my team got their slots." She rubbed her fingers together in the universal sign for money. "At least the captain accepted the bribes form ones that could play, and held semi-fair try outs. And for the record, i wasn't one of the bribers. I earned my slot."
Ruby's cheeks flushed at the implied complement. "I can handle people that try the funny stuff. I usually skip the magic and just kick them in the nuts or break their fingers. pain gets the point across." she winced as all that came out without stopping at her mental filter. /Great Ruby, scare him why don't you. Next you'll be telling him about the time you accidentally turned that one guy into a girl./ she mentally scolded herself as Lyall headed off for the food.
She closed her eyes while she waited and her imagination began to alter Lyall's image, softening his features and lengthening his hair some. her nose wrinkled, no Lyall made a butt ugly girl.
"Hmm? Oh, I don't know. Maybe once we're done we can just play around on the brooms?" she replied accepting her bag and the drink. "And thank you for getting lunch."

Lyall sat cross-legged on the edge of the pitch devouring his roast beef sandwich and salad.. For some reason he'd come to like that, it might have been because of all the different things the friendly house elf had tried on him, or it could just have been because of some other off the wall reason he couldn't put his finger on.. He shrugged and thought he'd try to figure it out later.
"Well, you certainly get right to the 'point' when someone does something unwanted don'tcha?" He chuckled at her upfront way of....warning him to watch his step? Well, that wouldn't be a problem because he didn't see her that way. "I agree.. Pain does have a way of pushing a point across." He conceded with a grimace from just such a remembered happening.. Though she'd led him on for a while before he decided to pursue the matter to a very painful end.
He'd finished his sandwich in between the process of talking and remembering, though still had a good deal of salad left that he took his time on. "So just a friendly game of cat and mouse then? Or are we putting a little more into it than that?" He asked slightly amused.

Ruby hungrily tore into her steak sandwich, letting her eyes drop closed in pleasure. She had no idea how the elves knew how exactly she liked her cheese steaks, but she was going to do everything in her power not to tick the little servants off. Wiping her chin with her thumb she popped her thumb into her mouth to clean it.
"I suppose that might be why I ended up where I did. One to many "Pain is learning" sessions before I came here." Some of which she had administered the lessons, some she'd been the one to receive the painful lesson. Shoving the thought away she finished her meal and drank down some of her drink, setting the rest in the shade for later.
"Cat an mouse sounds good to me. I left my balls in my room, and I haven't yet broken the lock spell on the school balls." Ruby stated as she went to her bag and reached in. Her arm disappeared up to the shoulder, when it should have only covered to her elbow. "Bag of holding." she said as she pulled her broom out of the bag.

Lyall smiled as Ruby tore into her lunch with relish. He was glad he'd remembered everything she'd asked, or the elf had known ahead of time.. Either way he was minutely proud of himself. After she finished her sandwich and he'd finally finished his salad he sat there astonished slightly by the fact that she'd gotten up to her shoulder into a bag that didn't look any more deep than elbow-wise. He watched her pull a broom from the bag and it clicked as soon as she explained how she'd pulled it off.
He looked at the broom he was forced to use while his was getting repaired and almost broke it over his knee in frustration. The broom she'd pulled out was close to top of the line, since they'd just come out with a new model the first of the school year. It was supposed to be a beauty, though he hadn't been able to make it to a broom shop to see it in person. He figured he'd have to wait til summer and beg his parents to let him go to London to check things out.
His attention was pulled back to the present as he felt the poorly made model he held. "I hope those idiots at the repair shop get mine fixed soon.. These ancient models are driving me nuts. The least they could do is upgrade them a few times." He ground between his teeth as he straddled the withered handle and pushed off to hover just above the ground. "Well? Whatcha waitin for? You'll fly rings around me with that."

Ruby smirked a little when she caught Lyall eying her broom. "Last years Kestrel. Not as good as the newest stuff, but I like how she handles. If you promise to treat her nice, I'll let you use her. I have another flying toy I can fly. Make it a more even game."
She set the broom on the grass and again her hand disappeared into the bag. This time she brought out her skim board and let it float down to hover a half foot above the ground. "My uncle calls it a skim board. he figures we need something that blends in better in the modern age. Really, how many non-magical house holds use wood and straw broomsticks any more? Most use plastic ones, or vacuums. My uncle tried laying the flight spells on a Hover once just for the heck of it... didn't go well. Kind of took out a satellite. And put a new crater in the moon."
"up." she commanded, causing her broom to leap back into her hand. Tilting it to Lyall she raised an eyebrow. "She's a treat to fly. Faster then the old Firebolts, smoother handling. Turning can get a little tricky if you're not careful..."

Lyall smiled genuinely as Ruby offered him use of her broom. He was completely aggravated about having to use the school's ancient broom. "You sure you wouldn't mind me using your broom? Even if you have another toy.... I wouldn't let just anyone hop on mine." He asked, very surprised at her offer.
He lowered the ancient piece of driftwood turned broom to the ground, dismounted, and placed the thing back in the broom closet with the other school brooms.
Though he waited on Ruby's acknowledgement to actually mount the broom, he picked it up from it's resting spot and examined it in great detail. It was a fine model indeed. One tuned more for evading bludgers than for speed.. He favored that model as well over the newer one. He turned it this way and that, trying to figure out if it had any tics or anything that might throw him... After all, all brooms have an attitude of their own, a specific way they wanted to be handled.
When he'd finished his examination, he looked up at Ruby and noticed she was holding up something resembling a skate board from the U.S. and frowned inquisitively. What is that? And why would she claim a muggle contraption is a 'flying toy'? He wondered silently. As she issued it a command it jumped into her hand and he back stepped slightly. Interesting.
He watched her twist it this way and that for him to see.. Yes, it looked like a normal.. skate board. Hearing her say it flew faster than a Firebolt, and handled like a dream, he finally had to ask. "How exactly can that thing... fly? Isn't it made for doing tricks on the ground? I mean... It looks cool, I just don't see how that would fly as fast as a broom.
He studied it a bit more and figured her uncle had been right about one thing.. It definitely looked like nothing magical.. And it was also true that not many muggles now used a bristle broom to do much of anything anymore, unless it was to dress up as a witch or warlock during Halloween. "Though, I can see the ideal behind it.. It doesn't look like it could be magical in the least. A flying Hoover.. I would have paid to see that!" He laughed as he imagined a magical vacuum shooting like a rocket into space. Caused a new crater in the moon?! It must have really been flying..
He looked back at the broom in his hand and reaffirmed that she didn't mind. After all, to quid players especially, brooms were sacred. "You sure you don't mind? I can get the school broom back out." He said on a grimace.
