Ruby waved off his concern. "I'm not worried about you messing it up. I saw how you reacted when your broom was damaged in the Puff match. You will take care of it, and if you do accidentally damage it I've got a cousin who works for the company that makes the Kestrel. If it gets trashed, I can have her take it in for repairs or get a new broom from her at a discount."
Stepping onto her board she smirked at Lyall. "Besides, the broom is only as good as the person controlling it. Girl back home used to fly rings around me on this old piece of rubbish broom while I was on the kestrel. She was damn near untouchable once she got a scholarship and went on to the National level."
"My broom shouldn't give you any trouble. I just polished her up and straightened the bristles. As for this thing flying, it works just the same as a broom, only i'm standing on it and not looking like I'm doing something naughty while cleaning the floor. School brooms are crap. You'd think with all the alumni this place has that they'd donate some new gear and the like."

Lyall said his thanks, and straddled the Kestrel pushing off the ground slightly to hover. "Thank you.. I'll be sure to treat it right. That looks pretty cool there. And, you're right.. They should show their pride in teams some how."
He handled the broom expertly, doing loops, zig zags and other maneuvers to get the feel of how it flew. He came back to hover slightly off ground level and smirk at Ruby. "Ok, so.... I chase you first?? Or what? And no taking it easy either." He smarted off.. If it's one thing he couldn't take is someone not seeing him as an equal and not giving their all.
Lyall hovered there waiting on Ruby to take off, or what ever she was going to do. He prepared for the chase by gripping the broom tight with his thighs and beginning to lean forward, a exuberant smile playing across his lips that turned into a challenging grin. He rotated his neck and shoulders to loosen up, and played around whilst she decided her tactic.
He studied her, her foot placement, her body angle and language trying to figure out which way she was going to go.

Ruby cocked her head as a thought occurred to her, and a mischievous smirk appeared on her lips. "I just thought of a way we can raise funds to replace the school equipment. Have you seen any of those Buff guys and hot babe calenders? We could do some of those with the attractive members of the school teams. Side step the under age issue by all our models takeing a slug of an aging potion to make them legal for the shoot. I've made aging potions before they aren't that hard. All my friends used to use them before we went to the shore on spring break."
She waited a few moments to allow Lyall to picture her more mature and developed before kicking off and zipping up to his altitude. If he was paying attention he could see she controlled the board by shifting her weight much like the two sports that inspired her board.
"I'd have to hurt you if you took it easy on me Hound dog."[/color[ Ruby laughed as she zipped past and smacked his shoulder. "Tag!! you're it! Wee!" laughing she shot towards the far end of the pitch, her height above the ground raising and lowering at random intervals.

Lyall's thoughts started going elsewhere when Ruby started to explain her idea of how to get the school to upgrade the brooms and stuff.. He was ready to firmly decline when his mind started pulling images of Ruby as older and much more 'mature'. He started mentally kicking himself because she wasn't his type, he'd begun to see her as an ally, if not a friend and picturing her like that was just wrong.
He regretted letting her pull the veil over his eyes, because as soon as he got himself out of the hole he figured out what she'd done... The sneak.. He laughed, it was his own fault he'd let himself get roped into it.. Stupid! he admonished himself severely.
Though he had been paying attention to her control, but not having seen a board like that, even the muggle ones in person the way she handled it was almost alien to him. But it seemed that she leaned in the basic direction she wanted the board to go. How she rated the speed and such he still didn't know. Finally catching up to her, he yelled across. "That was a low blow, snake." He raced closer and tagged her and raced off in another direction.. "You're it... Now come get me!" He chuckled.

Ruby could see Lyall's eyes defocus slightly, and she tried to hold back a giggle. Men, so easy to throw off. maybe she'd let a few of her vacation photos slip out before the next match... She shivered and firmly vetoed that idea. there where some people she did NOT want having a picture of herself in a bikini.
She did her best to stay ahead of him, but a glance back to stick her tongue out at Lyall gave him the opportunity to catch her. "You're just disappointed I didn't spend the same time picturing you in something skimpy. I did, but you make a butt ugly girl." Maybe she could catch him again when he paused to picture her with another girl. Maybe. Not likely though.
Leaning forward she put on more speed as she chased after Lyall. "HEY! Mind the Forest edge! I don't want you hitting some invisible flier!"

Lyall was pushing the broom to its limits when he heard Ruby say something about him being disappointed that she hadn't spent time picturing him in the buff. He chuckled... If the girl didn't want to, he wasn't going to get upset about it. He thought to himself.
Then she said something that threw him off just enough it allowed her to gain a few precious feet. She pictured me as a...GIRL?! he shook his head vehemently to clear the image that placed in his mind.. Sure.. Like most guys he liked watching... especially two girls having fun.. and maybe even joining in if he was invited.. But...WHAT?! Why had she thought of such a thing?
He then started laughing uncontrollably, almost falling from the broom, so much so that he hadn't seen the path that he'd started on was taking him toward the forest.. And since the rumors of a beast of some sort resided in there, he knew for some reason the headmistress as well as every professor had applied some type of invisible magical barrier to the perimeter. Lyall doubled the broom back to avoid crashing into just that barrier as he heard Ruby warn him. "Relax lady! I got it, I got it..... Just... Did you HAVE to picture me as a GIRL then tell me about it??! Really?"
His body was still shaking from the laughs that had just started to subside when he'd doubled back. Now face to face with a quickly approaching Ruby, Lyall weighed his options.. Straight ahead and throw her off.... Or angle one way or the other hoping to avoid her tag.. Awhhh.. What's life without a little fun? he giggled quietly as he aimed just off Ruby's left side for a game of Chicken.. Who'd flinch first?

Ruby burst out laughing and drifted to a stop, hanging in mid air as she struggled to regain control. "N... No... I didn't really picture you as a girl." she giggled around gasps for air. "But, yes, I had to tell you to mess with your head when it occurred to me."
Leaning forward to rest her hands on her knees Ruby watched Lyall circle back through the fringe of her bangs. So he wanted to play Chicken did he? Well fine, two could play that game. Well two had to play that game, but what ever... Shifting her weight Ruby sent her board rocketing at Lyall, keeping an eye on the distance between them as she ran her options. She could veer off at the mast second, flip upside down and pray the sticking charm would hold her on long enough to right herself, or maybe try jumping Lyall.

Lyall looked surprised as Ruby made her way straight into his path.. Oh, going to play the game are we? He thought rather haughtily. He was still trying to control some of the laughing her comment about him looking stupid as a girl had brought on.. "Well, next time.. How about doing us both a....favor? And not mentioning me being a girl?" He said between stifled giggles. "Though, in hindsight you would make a butt-ugly guy." He laughed in way of revenge.
His grip on the broom tightened as they came closer...and closer to each other.. One stubborn raven, and an equally stubborn snake it seemed. Both determined to make the other flinch first. A battle of wills. He glanced down, saw his knuckles were white from the added strain.. Thoughts running through his head included: Ok, I'm on her broom.. How far am I going to take this?... I'll have to... Break off..
He didn't want to risk breaking her broom, or wrecking her.. skim board?.. He hated waiting on his board to be fixed.. And he couldn't.. wouldn't have the reason they won any quid matches against the snakes be because he'd decommissioned one of their players. He loosened his grip on the broom slightly, his fingers were starting to ache. Glancing up, he noted they'd traveled the length of the pitch, and were now within a few feet of each other.

Ruby cocked her head as she tried to picture herself as a guy, but could only manage to picture herself as she'd looked before puberty had set in. "Deal. And yeah.. I'd make a horrible looking guy. I make a much cuter cat girl."[/color[
That had been a fun Halloween costume-transformation last year, even if she'd ended up a latex kitty. And gotten detention for the outfit she'd been wearing besides the ears and tail. Pulling her attention back to the two of them she eyed the distance remaining between them.
"Belly to belly." she called. "Your left, my left.
She hoped Lyall got she wanted him to rotate to his left along their flight path while she did the same. She's seen others on the school's teams do the move, and she'd done it with her own team and too others as well.

Lyall near choked on laughter as she mentioned her being a cat girl. He hoped it had been a Halloween costume, and not some transfiguration or potion gone awry. Though he had to agree that the way he pictured her as a cat girl was a much nicer visual than the one he'd conjured up of her as a guy.
"I have to agree with you there. Cat girl would be much preferred to a guy version."
He judged the distance they were closing between them. Mere feet separated her board and his borrowed broom before Ruby told him what maneuver she wanted to attempt. He gave a nod and let her know he heard her request. " Alright! Sounds good."
He expertly maneuvered the broom to his left slight inches away from Ruby rolling slightly on his side to aide in the turn. He gave a whoop of joy as the adrenaline that came from such a 'close call' made his skin take on a warm feeling. Flying in a loose circle he angled back to where he could watch Ruby finish the same on the standing board. He was interested in how exactly it reacted to body weight/movement.
OOC: Notes: He's starting to see Ruby on even flying standings, and not too bad... For a snake.

Ruby grinned as she swiped at her nose, which was beginning to twitch for some reason. "The detention was worth it. I loved being a cat. Perfect excuse to curl up on friends laps and beg to be petted. managed to get the purr down by the time the costume came off."
Shifting her weight Ruby mirrored Lyall's move, the bottom of her board passing inches away from his legs as they passed each other. She had to grab the edge of the board, ending up nearly int he fetal position before she was done. But when the maneuver was finished she let out a whoop and did a spin in place.
"THAT was a rush!" she laughed as she drifted slowly closer. "Wish we weren't on opposite teams, I think i'd enjoy playing with you.

Lyall watched Ruby pull of her gravity defying act with baited breath hoping she wouldn't fall though he knew she was an amazing flyer from playing the snakes many a time. He let the breeze push him closer as he waited on her to finish, when she did he pulled within ear shot as she let out a hoop of enjoyment.
He chuckled at what she'd said. "Just because we're on different teams doesn't mean we can't play......." He let his sentence drift to silence as he realized how he'd said it. A slight red color rose to his cheeks as he apologized. "That's not how I meant that.. Sorry.."
He shrugged it off, or tried to, and hoped she'd do the same. He'd begun to see her as an ally in this crazy world, getting started on being friends.. Lyall smiled reassuringly and pulled a tight loop. "So... Uhm, what now? I got another half hour before I need to be at fencing... Heaven help me."

Ruby burst out laughing at Lyall's innuendo and admitted to herself her own comment wasn't much better. "Relax. I know what you meant, and I also wasn't offended. Take much much more then that. Ug, you should hear some of the stuff that comes out of my one uncle's mouth. I'm glad he's just related to me by marriage."
She let herself drift more, moving like she was riding a regular skate board along the side walk. "Ooof... thanks for reminding me. I already got lectured by Prof Z about being tardy for fencing myself. I had plenty of time, but he had to give me the speech about how I signed on for the course and blah blah blah."

Lyall smiled as Ruby brushed off his comment, a snort was heard as she informed him it would take a lot more to insult her, due to family actions. He knew what that was like.. His father and mother had both been rather notorious for that type of humor before the accident that had taken his sister. A look of sadness crossed his face as he remembered that night all too well.
" I know how that is.. My parents used to have that sort of 'humor'. I kind of miss it.." His voice had taken an octave lower than normal but he brushed it off. He didn't like a lot of people knowing what happened. In fact, he wasn't sure anyone but some of the professors knew anything about it. He shrugged.
"I hate fencing.. Or at least the 'muggle' type my parents sent me to lessons for. He says magical fencing is completely different. I just figured I'd give it a try.." he groaned as he lowered the broom so his feet touched the ground and dismounted. A look of utter disgust crossed his face as he dreaded this first... and any subsequent lesson. Why he'd signed up he would never know.
Looking up he waited for her to move to the ground so he could give her the broom back and thank her again.

Ruby let her board drop pretty much straight down, only stopping it a half a foot from the ground. hopping off she flipped it up into her hand with a practiced move. "My mom's all right with her jokes, though when she's had a bad day she goes for gallows humor. usually find her some chocolate ice cream and leave her alone until the next morning." she belatedly winced at the slip in her mom's cover story. Why would a researcher get depressed and have need for gallows humor? While fretting over her slip Ruby missed the change in Lyall's tone.
"My gran suggested it. She's an instructor back in the states for the magical half of the President's protection detail. She said it would do me good to do something other then study, annoy people, and get in trouble. And you don't argue with my Gran." while she was complaining about her grandmother, there was warmth and love in Ruby's voice. "Well, this was fun. Maybe we can do it again? maybe round up a few more for mixed house pick up game?"
