Next thing Zadiken knew, after she said her peace, she was up, out of the bed, and he was on the floor, losing his balance and falling off after flailing in half surprise and half shock of the sudden movement. After a thud, he laid there, surprised and concerned, but knowledgeable enough to know she needed left alone. he then stood up, sat down on the bed, and waited. He waited for a while as he heard the shower running, hands in his lap, and looking at the other end of the hall.
After another moment, she came back in, and said she loved him to, and couldn't hold him here just because of that possibility. No. He's not staying just to cover his mess up.
"I'm staying because I want to be with you, and starting a family with you.. is all I've ever wanted to do, Lana. he eyed her for a moment, smiling and walking over to her, touching her chin to get her to look him in the eyes. He kissed her gently, and looked at her, brushing her hair behind her ear. "Give me one good reason why I have to leave." he said, smirking his trademark smirk.
It wasn't so much that he was scared now for the child, he was scared for all three of them. Why would he straight up ignore her now? He has had time to grow, to work out things, and to find her again. This... had to be fixed, and he knew the only way to do that was...
He went on one knee.

Lana stood on legs still weak from all of the stress that had crossed her desk and into her personal life within the last week. She met his ice blue eyes with her own that were so full of exhaustion as he got up off the bed, wincing as she knew she'd knocked him to the floor in her mad dash out of the bed. As he walked to her and told her that he was not staying because he had to but because he wanted to she gave a lowly sigh. How much more stress could she take at a time like this? Her heart jumped as he said he wanted to start a family with her and she opened her mouth, "How do you know, Zadiken? We've only just fallen into each others lap again. What in our past would tell you that we could make it? Why would you want to stay? You're only here because you got appointed my the Minister, what happens after they find everything or we do?"
She started to walk toward the bed when he grabbed her hand. " I can't give you a reason as to why you have to leave, but you give me a reason as to why you should stay, why I should let you?" she said with a strained voice. Then he did it.. He went down on one knee... Her jaw dropped and her knees threatened to buckle as her voice trembled, "Wait.. Zadiken.. What are you doing?

He closed his eyes and smiled. "No. I'm not proposing to you yet... but I'm making a promise. A promise to take care of you for the rest of my life, married or not." he bowed his head slightly, taking her hand. "The past is the past... I can't fix that. All I can do is make your future bright."
He looked up into her eyes, gazing into the sparkling eyes, the eyes that he had fallen in love with... he kissed her hand gently and stood, looking at her. "I came here to be a professor. I would give up Aurorship to work with you. I would give up everything to be with you." he touched her face gently and smiled at her. He then leaned forward to kiss her, pulling her into a hug, hoping she would comply, and held her there, held her to him for as long as he could. His love for her, unbreakable, his devotion for her, undeniable, his heartbeat was for her and her alone. He knew this all along, and he did not plan to make the same mistake. History would not repeat itself again, he swore it both to her and himself. He looked her in the eyes.
I love you.

Lana steeled herself as she heard him say it didn't matter if they were married or not, she was his. What was she? Some wench he could use and toss to the wind whenever he wanted? Though she knew if he'd actually done what she'd thought he was leading up to, they would have definitely been moving too fast. She made her legs carry her to the wardrobe to get her robes. " Well, then.... I guess I should at least touch base with the professors and make sure the students have not had any more run-ins with the creature in the forest." she said as she dressed. She turned to go into the washroom and put her hair up in a thick braid.
Turning to meet Zadiken's ice blue eyes again, she felt her resolve weakening. She opened her mouth to a tone that was slightly more harsh than she'd expected. " So, what exactly am I supposed to do? Run around like everything is fine until you decide what you're going to do with me, marry or toss away with the evening's trash? Am I your kept woman now?!" With the final word she stomped her foot slightly to emphasize her point. That's what she felt like he was trying to do. Make sure she couldn't go after someone else or no one could make a move on her. What was it, he didn't trust her honesty in the fact that she hadn't had anyone willingly since they were kids here? Feeling more heated, partially by the magnetic pull she'd always had toward him, she walked over to the door and placed her hand on it then waited to see what he was going to do now. Stop her or let her go.?

"Wait. I don't think you're just some chick I can toss around. You have your feelings too... and I respect them." he walked over to her, looking her in the eyes and smiled. "I'm ready to try this with you. Truthfully. Honorably." he took her hand and gripped it gently. "We can take this as slow as you need to." he said, looking her in the eyes.
He remembered times before where he would stand like this with her, maybe dance afterward, talk, smile, laugh, feel... good about each other. She took the bad boy out of him, made him feel like a man. A cold feeling arose when he remembered walking away from her, the look in her eyes, the feeling he had when internally he was screaming to turn around, go back... be with her.
But he didn't.
He closed his eyes and opened them, seeing her back then, at the Great Hall, right after he said no...
"I was young... stupid... I won't do that to you again, Lana. I want you... your heart." He kissed her hand and looked at her, hoping she saw the years of maturity, the year he missed her in his eyes.

Lana stood looking into his ice blue eyes that had taken on a shadow of warmth as he tried to get through her hurt at not exactly getting what in her heart she wanted. A hesitant smile curved a corner of her mouth as his....stubbornness broke her a little. "If I'm not a kept woman whom you're just going to toss about like a plaything, then what am I Zadiken?" she said. Moving slow huh? She thought to herself as a sly idea crossed her, should she make him wait as he'd done her so long ago?.... Should she lay him and tell him she wanted nothing more do to now that she got what she wanted?
She laughed as she saw the small internal war that was being waged inside his head. " What is it? Trying to figure out how to get what you want and leave me hangin here? Or was I not good enough? There's got to be some reason you want to take this dang near standing still.. " she muttered. Just to see where he was going to go from there, she turned away from the door and sat at her writing desk turned toward the very confusing man/child/protector that had waltzed back into her just oh so boring life... Right... Boring.. What, with the Ministry sticking their noses into her business and a hybrid, mutant.....thing in her Forest she would take a little boring right now. Maybe a nice vacation on one of the islands or something, get a little tan, or even go diving... How she used to love that...
Her more chipper mood was darkened slightly as her thoughts turned toward their recent 'mishap' and more seriously toward another one a while back when she hadn't known that magical contraceptives didn't work as well when the person using it was not in the magical world, she still didn't know the reason why that was.. But it had happened.. She'd been raped, and had found herself with child which she had no way to care for. She'd hate herself for eternity because of the choice she'd had to make after she'd found that she wouldn't carry to term.
She brought herself out of her reprieve and forced herself to look at Zadiken and say "Zadiken.. I might not be able to give you the family you seem to want." Her heart broke as the words she hoped to never have to say spilled from her lips. How would he feel once he learned her darkest secret? Would he still want her? The fact was she didn't want so slow they were standing still, she wanted to make up the years they'd missed. She wanted him and everything he could give her. He didn't understand that. How could she get him to understand she wanted it all and more? It all hinged on what he said..

Zadiken looked at her silently for a moment. What would it take for him to convince her that he was for real? Convince her that he wasn't going to run, that he was going to stick around and take care of her, no matter what? It was difficult. He saw a longing in her eyes for more than the physical contact... more than being together in bed... He close his eyes and drew a breath. A short, relaxed breath, and smiled a wry smile.
"I take it one must take drastic measures..." he reached back and touched the blade of his sword, cutting his finger a little, a small bead of blood pooling in a crimson orb where he cut. He then closed his eyes, the area around him getting warmer as a sliver of liquid metal was drawn from his sword, the blood floating within it. Then, in a small flash of light, a solid gold ring floated in front of him, a diamond in the center with intricate designs adorning the ring. The diamond was red, encased with his blood, immortalized within the crystal. He plucked it from the air slowly and took her left hand, sliding the ring on her finger, looking her in the eyes.
"My blood... is with you. Proof that as long as you wear this ring, as long as there is even the slightest crisis, all the way to the worst of events in our lives... you have me." he said sincerely, bowing his head slightly. He still held her hand, closing his eyes and putting his other hand over hers. "I've changed, Kaliana. I'm not going to run. Not anymore."
He opened his eyes, and looked at her. His blue eyes gazed into hers, looking for answers to questions he held all these years. Looking for peace, looking for a lifetime of love and happiness. Zadiken wasn't sure how he felt, but he did know one thing.
Love was a big part of it.
He reached into his pocket and took out a pocket watch.
"We can make the meeting... it's in thirty minutes.." he mentioned in passing, waiting for her to answer him.

Lana sat there and listened as Zadiken said something about drastic measures and she stiffened, wondering what he'd thought up now. She was still wondering what he had in store for her when she felt the sudden electric charge zing through the air and gasped. She hadn't seen him take his hand behind his back, or the resultant transfiguration. But she had felt the pure unadulterated energy that flowed around the love of her life.
Lana's jaw dropped as he seemed to summon a perfect gold ring with the most unique diamond she'd ever seen. It was red like a ruby, but more.....alive.. with color and had the brilliance of the most expensive diamond that muggle money.. hell, wizard money too, could buy. The realization didn't hit until he reached for her hand to place the amazing artifact on her finger of what he was going to do with it. As Zadiken placed the ring on her finger, she was quietly dumbfounded...completely without words or thought. Though, somehow the vow, it was more than a promise judging by the dead serious tone laced with something sweeter he'd used, filtered through her hazed brain and tears began to form at the corner of her eyes... ones that had taken on a velvet hue from all the emotion she was feeling currently.
As her mind awoke from the enforced drugging brought on by the deep shock, and exquisite and overpowering love she felt for the man in front of her, the same one who claimed he'd changed, that he was going to stand by her through the easiest as well as the hardest trials that magic, life, fates... whatever... threw at them, the only words she could form in her still groggy mind burst forth from her dry lips. "Zadiken!? What.... is this? I mean, I know what this is.. But.... Hell, I don't know... All I know is I love you, I want you, and want to have a family with you.. Maybe not in that order specifically.." she laughed.
She jumped up from her chair and gave him the deepest kiss most full of everything she was feeling and wrapped her arms so tight around his neck it probably threatened to break if she didn't release soon, but she just couldn't bring herself to do it. She'd got it.. Everything... All she'd ever wanted.. Okay, so it wasn't maybe as concrete legally yet, but.. she looked down at the ring.. and the power of what he'd done hit her full force as she now knew why the red tint in the ring just seemed alive.. He'd fashioned that from his own...blood. She felt that meant more to him than any piece of paper or doctorate or whatever ever would, and swore to cherish every heartbeat she was with him from then on.
Zadiken's sudden change of topic threw her and the response he got mirrored that. "Meeting, what meeting?" She said, flustered. Then it hit her.. They were supposed to meet all the professors to figure out what to do about the sphinxicore.. "OH! That meeting.. Yeah, we can still make it. I need to drop by my office first though to gather my notes. " She laughed on a suppressed groan. How she wanted to show him exactly how much what he'd done meant to her.

Zadiken saw first confusion, slight concern, then realization cross her eyes of what he did when he slipped the ring onto her finger. Mixed feelings of love seemed to shiver through her as she looked up at him, and pulled him close in a tight, deep kiss. He wrapped his arms around her as he closed his eyes, kissing her deeply and lovingly as she was him. Finally, they both opened up to each other, the love pouring from them. He felt her heartbeat seem to resonate with his and smiled, moving around the desk to kiss her again, pulling her close and holding her as she finally released her emotions, her true emotions, and spoke to him. She laughed and cried at the same time, as he shared the tears with her, smiling as they kissed.
He held her as she fumbled her words, laughing as she did so, thinking it was the cutest thing she had done all day. He smirked and looked her in the eyes. "This is more than just a promise ring. This is more than just a proposal for marriage... this is a promise, a commitment to take care of you, be with you... so marriage? A piece of paper... you and I? This is love... I am in love with you... and I wouldn't have it any other way." every word came out truthfully, sincerely. He looked into her eyes and smiled, touching her face gently. He looked into her violet eyes and saw the girl he fell in love with. No... the woman he had always been in love with.
He felt a sudden sensation of familiarity... when he gave her that promise ring so many years ago, she practically jumped on top of him right there in the Great Hall, smothering him with kisses, causing the Gryffindor and Slytherin tables to explode in protest. No one had known they were dating until that moment. He was amused... years later, the old Gryffindor, the old Slytherin, stood together in that office, nothing but love in their eyes, love in the room between them... She was then confused, asking about the meeting. He chuckled a bit, realizing that she had forgotten. He touched her face, then realized that her laugh was fake. Very fake. He looked at his pocket watch and smiled, closing his eyes.
"We have thirty minutes." he said, winking.

Lana stood up, was embraced by the only one she'd ever loved, and sighed. How badly she wanted to be held in his arms for eternity and not worry about anything else. As Zadiken talked of promises....promises for their future, she began to feel confused... Her voice reflected this when she asked, " You know I love you, and always will... But, are you saying you don't want to marry me?.. I mean, I know we've only just met again, but isn't that a little....harsh?" It wasn't as if that was a requirement, necessarily... But she wanted everyone, female or otherwise, to know he was hers and hers alone.
She looked at the clock plastered on the wall above the desk and groaned. The darn meeting.. How she wished she could avoid it. Right now she just wanted to hole up in her room, in her giant bed.. and forget about everything for a while.. She was exhausted both mentally and physically... and quite possibly magically... Then she heard him say that they had thirty minutes... Thirty minutes for what....? And it hit her... Duh!!! She wondered if thirty minutes would be... sufficient..
Her tone hit a sultry note as she said, " Well what are you waiting for then??!" And she allowed her hands to wander, then dragged him to the over-sized bed to show him how much he meant to her...

I'm setting this portion of the thread to after the meeting.
With a parting kiss on Kali's cheek, and a "Love you." Zadiken walked out of the office and down the hall. Having just given everyone the news about the possibility (a distinct possibility) of the Ministry being involved with the beast that was inhabiting the forest, he didn't want to be around to catch any heat from the others.
He kept going down the hall, a hell bent expression on his face when Tony came up behind him. Zadiken looked over his shoulder, then stopped.
"Zad. Zad! Wait up."
"What."
"You really think that this thing was dumped by the Ministry?"
"Hell if I know. Either way. I'm finding out."
He spun on his heel, and marched down the stairs, and continued towards the door, a look of absolute fury on his face.
Crowley. This man... he couldn't be back. He had to make sure. He had to.
He made it to the Great Hall and walked towards the great doors, the sky above on the enchanted ceiling rumbled with thunder, the evidence that a snowstorm was imminent that night. And it looked worse than the past one. He stopped at the great doors at the end of the hall, and leaned on the doorframe, eyes closed. He just got back to Kali. Just found her. And off he had to go to find out WHY his employer wanted to set a monster against students and faculty. WHY they were sent there, he and Tony, and WHAT the hell the y were going to do about the monster when the only way to kill it was jab silver into it's throat... they needed a better plan. A much better plan.
He opened his eyes and stood straight to start back down the hall, but stood there, ice in his stomach.
What was he going to do?

Lana rushed down the steps leading to the Great Hall, and to the retreating back of Zadiken. She was out of breath by the time she'd gotten there, seeing as how she'd ran the castle from her office. "Zadiken! Wait! I thought we got this over with in the meeting.. I do NOT want any Ministry involvement at this point. There is nothing you can do there except find proof that this guy... This Crowley is in fact back as you say. What good will that do us except post pone getting rid of this thing, and you KNOW he won't tell you how to defeat it. What makes you think anyone in the Ministry will tell you anything, especially now that I'm sure word has gotten around that we have a past." She near screamed at the thick headed man with as much venom as she could muster with her sides aching. I really need to work out more. she sighed to herself as her breath finally started to come in calmer bursts that hurt only half as bad.
Lana had passed Tony going the other way with a look of disapproval and now she knew why. Once Zadiken got it in his head that something had to be done and HE had to do it there was little to no stopping him. Yet, she knew.. somehow knew.. she could.. that he would stay there because she'd asked him to. Especially now that she'd brought up the prospect of her being the one to 'take care of' the beast in the forest, and that if he left that gave her ample opportunity to do just that come h*ll or high water. She didn't figure he'd leave that option open and so would stay if simply to prevent that happenstance.
" I know you're peeved at the prospect of your teacher coming back for some reason, or more so that alchemy has been used in the worst possible way.. But this isn't the way to solve it, in fact I suspect it would point more fingers your way.. Or even the prospect of them reassigning you somewhere else so we can't get rid of it. Though if it comes to that, like I brought up in the meeting, it is really my place to see this through.. no one else's. " She reminded him a little more evenly as her anger at his stubbornness had hit it's peak.
She stood, facing an equally peeved man judging my his expression and waited for the fight to ensue.

Zadiken was jolted out of his daze when Kaliana caught up to him. He listened to her as she told him to stay. Really, begged him to stay. He gazed at her, thinking of the past 24 hours... the time that they had spent together. What could he say? What could he even do? He listened as she explained herself and her reasoning, and he nodded.
"And just to let you know, I'm taking care of the Beast."
He sighed and smiled. He opened his arms in defeat. "For that, I'll stay. For you." he conceded for the most part because he didn't want her to stress any more than she already had been... He reached out and touched her face, not giving a flying piss of who was watching. He had a sword. That alone rendered the 'children's' arguments invalid.
He closed his eyes again and heard footsteps behind him as Tony came running up.
"Student was attacked... out on the Grounds..."
"The Grounds?!"

Lana signed as the tension....anger abated slightly. She figured she was going to have the fight of the century (besides the battle of Hogwarts) on her hands, and was thrown for a loop when Zadiken just agreed to what she said. Though in the back of her mind she doubted the issue would be dropped entirely. She had just opened her mouth to continue her side of the argument, feeling unfulfilled with his 'ok I'll stay'.. Something didn't make sense because he had been so dead set on going to the Ministry, really had been leaving on that route when she'd caught up with him, and then just did an about face?
Then, Tony came rushing in and any thought of arguing now was pushed to the back burner. Before he'd finished his hurried explanation Lana was already heading out the door, with the word 'Grounds' trailing behind her. Not even paying attention to the fact that Zadiken and Tony were probably still standing in the Entrance Hall, she ran.. Not caring if students saw or not, or what they thought.
When she reached the student on the lawns halfway between the forest and the castle she noticed it was one of the newest boys enrolled in the school with the nickname of Kite. She shuddered slightly as she witnessed the seemingly lifeless form lying face down with horrendous gashes across the student's back. Immediately she summoned a stretcher and using a levitation spell gently moved Kite onto the board. She then screamed for Zadiken....Tony, someone to help her get him up to the hospital infirmary without as much jostling as a levitation spell would allow, not knowing where they were at that exact moment.
"Zadiken!!!! Tony!!! Get over here, now! We need to get Kite to the infirmary as soon as possible and not move him around.. I can't tell if the beast got him deep enough to endanger movement." She yelled, waiting impatiently for one of the two to get there.

Zadiken was right behind her, informing Tony to get Tabby, and one of his swords from his classroom. He knew Tony would infuse one of the weapons with Silver so it could be used if they were able to locate the creature. The time for planning was done now. It had to be eradicated. He blinked as he saw the student lying face down, and quickened his already full tilt pace. It seemed as though, from what he could see, that the student was blindsided, attacked from behind. Judging from the gashes, it was on long swipe. They looked deep, but weren't that deep. He was reminded of Tony's wounds, how they seemed to miss the vitals... What was this thing trying to do? He couldn't get his head around this concept, and resolved to talk about it to Tabby.
"I think he'll be ok if we can get him healed... I already hailed the nurses, so they should heal any major injury out here before we have to move him."
As he said this, as if on queue, three or four nurses came out, each armed with potions, and wands, followed by a large crowd of students. He cursed under his breath, and turned, pointing at a couple of Professors for crowd control, to keep the students back and keep from crowding the kid that was hurt. He turned back to Lana, and knelt as the healers started their work, patching up the kid, but he knew that those scars would remain, just like on Tony...
He stood, putting a comforting arm around Lana when one of the nurses confirmed that he would be ok, and took him to the Hospital Wing. He turned and glared towards the forest, his left hand itching to grab the handle of his blade so he could end that beast himself. But he made himself relax a little. No life was lost. Oddly enough... that thing would only kill and eat animals-
Wait.
"Lana... the Spinx is a riddling creature, isn't that was Tabby said?"
This thing wasn't looking to make a meal out of them.
Not without playing a game first.
He sighed, realizing the truth now. It was coaxing them out there, the smartest ones around, like lambs to the slaughter. It wanted a challenge before it feasted... on them.
